While this is only a small portion of the Fullerton Loop, it’s worth a visit. Other sections of the trail are shady and provide a great place to take a break.
Depending on your interests and the weather, you can make a full day out of the Loop.

If you want to get some single track action, try the Coronado trail in nearby Fullerton. This 1,558-foot-long green singletrack trail can be used both ways.
Another great loop near Fullerton is the Powder Canyon Loop. The route takes a fire road to the left. A small singletrack leads downhill. The trail then reaches four corners.
For some people, the Fullerton Loop is the perfect training ride. Having the ability to connect to other trails is a plus. Some of the best trails are also dog friendly.
On a recent ride, I noticed a lot of changes. The switchbacks were in excellent condition. However, the full-length loop was a little dry and the trail was super tacky.
The other big improvement was the new 10-acre cycling skills site at the Ted Craig Regional Park. The county is already giving tens of thousands of dollars for the bike park. Several high school mountain biking teams are springing up.

You can easily access the Fullerton Loop Trail from Highway 8 in Bragg Creek. Alternatively, you can start the trail on Berkeley Avenue, just west of Harbor Boulevard. There are some steep climbs, but most of the route is fairly flat.
If you want to do a longer loop, you can continue on the Juanita Cooke Greenbelt. You will pass the Allen Bill Day Use Area and the Sugar Mama trail. Another good option is to turn left onto Parks Rd., and then go north on the path next to the railroad tracks.
You can also take a shorter route by going straight up Valley View Dr. From there, you can get on the Hiltscher Trail and then head south. These options will take you past the courthouse.
If you have a GPS, you can download a map to use in navigating the loop. It is very well marked. However, you may need to follow a map to reach some of the trail’s side trails.
Overall, the Fullerton Loop is an easy ride, perfect for a day trip from LA. Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or new to mountain biking, this trail will keep you happy. Another popular hiking route is the Juanita Cooke Greenbelt trail. This trail is a smooth dirt path that connects quiet neighborhoods to downtown. The route is 2.5 miles each way, and you can extend your hike further north at Imperial Highway.
Although the Fullerton Loop is a popular trail with both hikers and bikers, it’s not officially acknowledged by officials. As a result, you won’t find any official signage or even a city recreational trails map.
